This shot functions as a reverse angle to Ronnie, our lead character, and serves as his point of view. Shot on an 85mm, close to wide open, we wanted to isolate the characters using framing devices and focus. We lit this nighttime interior with a mix of exterior sodium vapor motivated units pushing into the curtains on the left and broken by windows. Inside we used tungsten practicals and a litemat to extend the existing light onto the actors faces. I wanted to bathe their house in a rusty amber. Having a director willing to pursue thematic and intentional darkness allowed me to take risks with the images that were exhilarating.
