@cuckthefilm releases in select theaters and VOD this Friday! Link in bio for tickets or to preorder. . We did a variety of lens, camera, diffusion, and LUT tests before shooting @cuckthefilm. @abelcine and Matt Giblin were instrumental in our tests and providing the right tools. Lenses and cameras are unique storytelling devices and even the specific lens itself can profoundly shape the way the audience experiences an image or story. . Ultimately, director @rimrockpictures and I chose the Zeiss MK III Super Speeds, a Zeiss Compact Zoom, and Zeiss Contax Primes, all of which we paired with 1/8th Black Promist for subtle diffusion. This become another factor in contributing to our voyeuristic and fragmented visual design. It reinforced our aim to create grounded naturalistic images with a hint of the perceptual impressionism of life. . Additionally, I typically avoid zoom lenses, but in this case, we used zooms to communicate an encroaching observational voyeurism and a sense of powerlessness. We repeated a visual motif of frames within frames, boxing in the characters. Lenses are just another means of telling the story. . @cuckthefilm releases in theaters October 4th and is available for pre-order on iTunes now.
